Hearty Okra Soup

1 egg, beaten
1 lb. cut okra
1 1/4 c. cornmeal
1/4 c. bacon drippings
2 1/2 c. canned tomatoes
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. catsup
1 med. onion, chopped
1 med. bell pepper, chopped
Salt & pepper to taste

Combine egg and okra into bowl; coat with cornmeal. Fry in drippings over medium heat until browned. Add tomatoes, sugar, catsup, onion and bell pepper. Cover and simmer until vegetables are tender. Season with salt and pepper; serve at once.
